Eligibility Factors Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing is required.
Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing is desirable.
Candidates are required to attain and maintain CPR certification prior to hire.
Experience performing the essential functions of the position is desirable.

Position Purpose The purpose of this position is to oversee, provide, and coordinate nursing care in compliance with facility policies and procedures and to assess residents' care needs and take appropriate action.
Essential Functions Assess resident treatment needs Assess resident skin condition Administer resident treatments Administer direct resident care, medications, and treatment Administer CPR Perform catheterization Perform tube feedings Perform suction Change dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags Apply devices to prevent decubiti Give enemas Apply Ace bandages, TED stockings, splints, slings, and braces Provide emergency care to residents Initiate life-saving actions Perform care for the dying/dead Report residents' refusal of treatment Resolve residents' refusal of treatment Interpret policies and procedures Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards/guidelines Requisition and arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services Comply with federal, state, and local regulations Implement treatment plans Ensure residents' water pitchers are clean, filled, and available to residents Utilize restraints per policy Check restrained residents per policy/schedule Ensure nurses' call system is within easy reach of residents Lift/move resident Report changes in residents' conditions to supervisor Observe medications in residents' rooms and turn over to supervisor Observe smoking and report violations Report communicable/infectious disease Inform supervisor of change in residents' condition and reflect in treatment plan Monitor seriously ill residents Conduct resident rounds Perform comprehensive assessments of residents Report changes in resident conditions Observe/identify residents' problems/concerns and report to supervisor Evaluate residents' physical/emotional status Take, record, and evaluate vital signs Assess residents' response to treatment/medication Conduct Reality Orientation Greet/escort/orient new resident Introduce new resident to roommate/other residents/staff, as appropriate Make resident comfortable Treat residents fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect Maintain residents' privacy Meet with residents/family members Admit residents Transfer residents Discharge residents Inform family members of residents' death Conduct shift turnover briefings Listen to resident/family/physician complaints and initiate corrective action Interact with residents/family in a manner to enhance the reputation of the facility Intervene and diffuse argument/hostile situation Communicate new arrivals to staff Orient new residents/family to the facility Explain department policies and procedures to staff, residents, family, and visitors Give/receive residents' condition report during shift turnover Resolve customer complaints Select and operate appropriate equipment Select and utilize appropriate supplies Operate/utilize bedside commodes, bedpans, urinals Operate/utilize catheters Operate/utilize soap and hygiene supplies Operate/utilize blood pressure cuffs/sphygmomanometers Operate/utilize Geri chairs Operate/utilize safety restraints Operate/utilize stethoscopes Operate/utilize wheelchairs Operate/utilize walkers Operate/utilize bed Operate/utilize scales Operate/utilize thermometers Operate/utilize wrist watches Operate/utilize special eating utensils Operate/utilize hypodermic needles Operate/utilize intravenous/arterial infusion single port bags/containers Operate/utilize nebulizers Operate/utilize patient stabilization devices (crash cart, back board, etc.

) Notify supervisor of lost/missing residents Report missing/illegible labels/MSDS to supervisor Implement improvements in resident care/service Ensure employees and residents follow policies and procedures Report residents' complaints/grievances Resolve residents' complaints/grievances Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluid, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids Report residents' allegations of abuse/mistreatment Ensure implementation of Residents' Rights Render immediate resident assistance Answer resident call lights Ensure residents are ready and on time for therapy, activity, and other appointments Record entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, or other documents Utilize authorized abbreviations in documentation Maintain accurate narcotics records Report narcotic discrepancies Document resident care provided Complete admission/transfer/discharge documentation Document direct resident care, medications, and treatment Document comprehensive assessments of residents Document resident progress notes Maintain census report Review and update residents' written discharge plan Participate in shift-to-shift narcotic counts Transcribe physicians orders to residents' charts, records, care plans, etc.
