Description and Duties:

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is hiring two seasonal (July September) field biologists for research to assess diamondback terrapin bycatch in commercial blue crab traps in the Jacksonville area. The study area includes the St. Johns, Nassau, and St. Mary s Rivers and adjoining tidal creeks. Work will involve piloting a motorboat in these environments and extensive, demonstrable, prior boating experience is required. Fieldwork will involve hauling up crab traps (using a motorized hauler) to check for terrapins, rebaiting the traps and returning them to the water, recording field data, maintaining a computerized project database, and contacting crabbers to obtain data on trap soak times. The project will involve extensive interaction with commercial crabbers and will require good communication skills and tact to maintain cordial relations with this community. Duties will also include routine equipment maintenance. Some aerial surveys from a small aircraft may also be required. Field biologists will work without direct supervision, together or individually while supervising volunteers

Qualifications:

Extensive prior boating experience, preferably in shallow tidal environments, is required. Applicants should also have field experience and be comfortable working on the water for long periods, in potentially inclement conditions. Applicants should be in good physical condition and able to lift traps from the surface of the water into the boat. They should also be familiar with GPS navigation, field data collection, and entering data into a database using Microsoft Excel. They should be able to communicate effectively with commercial crabbers and maintain good working relationships with other staff and volunteers in the field. Applicants must possess a valid US driver s license and a Florida Boating License.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
