The Staff Process Excellence Engineer is responsible for implementing key business improvement initiatives for manufacturing lines within a larger site or for a small site (scope covers 200 associates or less). The individual defines opportunities, analyzes data, designs manufacturing line flows, and improves business processes. Improvement initiatives are led by enlisting and influencing cross-functional teams that deliver tangible business results through the application of Lean and Six Sigma principles, methodologies and tools. Utilizing business, leadership and technical skills, the Staff Process Excellence Engineer will both execute projects and mentor all groups (associate to management) at the site, developing a continuous improvement culture. Responsibilities of the role include: Responsible for developing a strategy and executing a plan to deliver process performance improvements related to Quality, Delivery, and Cost of a manufacturing line or business unit within a plant; Manages project portfolio activities such as prioritization, resource allocation, performance measurement, and change management plans; Develops strategy and execution plan to improve flow of products from suppliers to distribution centers for a value stream; Leverages process knowledge to identify opportunities / solutions to improve throughput capacity by reducing impact of constraints; Is responsible for driving associates' engagement and for developing Lean and Six Sigma capabilities through coaching and mentoring at various levels (associate to professionals) within the site; Sustains business improvement results through the application of Lean, Six Sigma, ME2, Do It Right, and other continuous improvement methodologies; Facilitates PEx trainings, certifications, business case definitions, and results presentations; as required; Follows and observes all regulatory requirements (GMP's, ISO, FDA, internal policies) applicable to area of responsibility; Complies with J&J; safety requirements and safe working conditions and practices in the department.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelors degree is required; Discipline in Engineering or Science preferred; An advanced degree, such an MS or an MBA is preferred; A minimum of 5 years overall business experience required; Experience in Manufacturing is strongly preferred; Certified Green or Black Belt preferred; Lean certification is preferred; Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing line operations, including issues such as yield losses and adjustments of machine set up to improve efficiency of production runs preferred; Ability to work cross-functionally and optimize resources to meet / exceed production performance on quality, cost, delivery, and budget required; Ability to lead plant level improvement projects including Operational Excellence and cost reduction initiatives required; Ability to take appropriate corrective action to resolve discrepancies and maintain production balance after reviewing actual performance as compared to plan required; Proactively foresees issues and balances trade-offs to maximize overall efficiency and performance of a manufacturing line preferred; Ability to identify and apply relevant product cost benchmarks to quantify improvement opportunities preferred; Ability to leverage knowledge of manufacturing principles and product costs and drivers to champion the DTV (Design to Value) process preferred; Ability to leverage understanding of the broader business and financial process context to make trade-offs that help reach the financial business plan preferred; Able to deliver strong oral and written communications and presentations around process improvement projects required; Organized, analytical approach to problem solving required; Familiarity with FDA, GMP and ISO preferred; In depth understanding of production and quality control techniques such as CFM and TQM is preferred; Experience in requesting and translating customer needs is required; Experience in designing end-to-end supply chains is preferred; Change management skills, assertiveness & collaboration skills, record of tangible improvements, strong decision making and problem solving skills required; Travel up to 5% may be required.
